THE CAVERN CLUB COMES TO YORK!
When we first announced that powerhouse drummer and all-round gadget man Phil had cancer, one of the first reactions we got was from Liverpool. We got a call from our mate Jamo - Dave Jamieson, who organises the Sunday Mersey Rats shows at The Cavern; he had been contacted by all our musician friends over there who had immediately offered their services to come over to York to play a show in aid of Cancer research and related charities. Needless to say, we were quite touched (no comments, please!)
This was quickly followed by a call from Ray Johnson, events manager at Cavern City Tours, offering his services too (he’s a pretty nifty sound man, and worked the desk a couple of years ago at The Atombeat Festival in Alloa).
Because we are pretty crap at organising (our “orgy in a brothel” party ended up a bit of a damp squib), we
decided to enlist the help of good friend Kirsten, who is brilliant at such things. Actually, she’s so good, she told us that she was going to organise it, got in touch with Jamo, organised a suitable date and venue, and lined up some possible sponsors, all before we could finish our beer...er....Horlicks. Now that is quick!
The line-up was:
7.15 Flashback
7.35 The Media
8.10 The Spidermen
8.45 Rick and the Backers
9.20 The Mojos
10.10 The Shakers
10.45 The Undertakers
11.35 Flashback
12.00 Finale

The Shakers in action at The Duchess York
Report in the York Press, October 27th
As we get photos from the evening we will post them in the gallery pages; click on the button to the right:

So many people helped to make the show what it was, in fact, the whole night didn’t cost us a penny, so we’d like to list some of them here, in no particular order (deep breath):
Cavern City Tours for allowing us to use the Cavern name
The Park Inn, York for supplying 15 free rooms and breakfast for the bands
Radio York and The Press for giving us much needed publicity
M.O.R. Music for lending us the backline
John Smiths for supplying free beer to the Duchess, allowing us to use the venue free of charge
Dave Jamo for arranging expenses for the artistes (and free beer backstage!)
Marks and Spencer for providing a buffet for the bands.
Everyone who supplied the quality raffle tickets, we raised a good amount from the raffle.
Everyone who bought tickets and turned up - I’m sure you’ll agree it was worth it!
...And, of course, Kirsten Ovenden and Ian Gillies who made the whole thing happen! Thanks to you all.
Cick here for the Finale on YouTube!
