… Or Lord Tantamount Horseposture of Fircombe Hall, has been playing drums since the early sixties, which has made his arms ache something chronic.
In the Sixties, Phil was a member of such well-known York bands as The Tycoons, The Scorpions, and, briefly, Gerry B and The Rockafellas (Gerry was to become known in the 1980s as Dustin Gee, the comedian and impressionist, partner of Les Dennis, who unfortunately died at an early age.)
Famed for the seemingly unlimited number of drums, bells and whistles that he manages to cram onto his kit if the others let him, in Flashback he manages to keep his kit down to an almost manageable minimum, mainly because Kev and Pete have hidden all the rest of his gear around York. He can often be seen roaming the city streets at dead of night in search of the lesser spotted Zildjian. Honest, yer honour.
He says his next gadget will be … a neat suitcase which unfolds to provide a 5-guitar stand. He can’t play the guitar, but hell, that’s just a trifling detail.
Phil is now living the gypsy lifestyle in a caravan somewhere in North Yorkshire. No, honestly, he says it’s “somewhere in North Yorkshire” - he has often failed completely to
find it on an evening. Either it regularly disappears and reappears somewhere else like Brigadoon, or he’s completely crap at navigating - no prizes for guessing which option The Band’s money is on!
When not playing, Phil whiles away the hours by ringing up his friends and insisting they go for a coffee with him.
Little known facts: Is reputed to be terrified of ducks, and has an airport in Russia named after him (and, no, there is NOT an airport called Pillock!)
