After last month’s mention of the unveiling of Steve’s Ludwig Super Classic drum kit, we felt we had to share some photos of a recent show we did at Mainsforth Community Centre, Ferryhill Station, County Durham. The Centre, built in the 1920s, was more of a ballroom, with a proper, sloping theatre stage, wings, vintage dressing room (see Gallery pages), balcony and even a small, old-style theatre box-office!
While we have played quite a few places like this before (the Town Hall at Alloa was one notable one) this one seemed to strike a chord with us as just the sort of venue that the Liverpool bands would have played at. Rising to the occasion, we set the stage up theatre-style, with all leads tidied away, P.A. hidden in the dark, and all clutter removed.
chose the panel that contained the name of our good friend Kingsize Taylor and The Dominoes (we have been sharing the bill at Lathom Hall, Liverpool, with The Dominoes over the last few months), and there it has remained for six years. The picture above is a photo taken from the TV, and the name is hard to read, so we’ve circled it. It was clearer on the night, honest.
Of course, we like to think that ITV zoomed in on the name of Flashback, not Kingsize Taylor and The Dominoes, but you can decide...

If you wanted to go to Liverpool to see the original bands, but never got around to it, then the afternoon of Sunday, 1st May is for you! Our good friend Mick at The Lupset, Wakefield, always coming up with new ideas to bring in the crowds, had the great idea of organising an afternoon of rock ‘n’ roll featuring two of the original Merseybeat bands still playing in Liverpool: The Undertakers and The Mojos. As an added bonus - probably - Flashback will also be on the bill.
Regular readers will know that the two bands are good mates of ours, and both appeared at The Cavern Comes To York charity bash 18 months ago. The venue is very child friendly, with an outdoor play area and beer garden, some great beers, and good food - we guarantee that the afternoon will go with a swing and can’t wait to get together with the guys again for a party - come along, it should be a great afternoon!

THE CAVERN COMES TO THE LUPSET
The resulting effect, shown here in the photo, was of an old-style beat show, with the complete equipment line-up of Hofner, Vox , Reslo and Ludwig.
Despite the size of the hall, it was quite well filled with paying customers, many in sixties fancy dress, who seemed to love every minute of the show, right from when we walked on stage to cheers as our introduction played (see below) to the end of the second encore. It was good to see some of our friends there, Jan and Gabe - two of the coolest people we know, and proving that, just because you are, er, mature, doesn’t mean that you can’t rock and roll.
A splendid time was had by all, and we’ll be back next year!
Many of you will have seen the ITV program on 9th February called “I was there when The Beatles played The Cavern” celebrating the 50th anniversary of the group’s first proper appearance at our favourite venue. We were suprised and really pleased to see our friends on there, Geoff Nugent, Beryl Marsden, Freda Kelly (Beatles fan club secretary), Alex McKechnie and others, but imagine our amazement when, towards the end of the program, they showed a close-up of the famous back wall of the stage, and right in the middle was our name!
The first time we played at The Cavern they told us that we were entitled to write our name on the wall, so we
